Tonight at your party

Nobody sees me

Stay back, linger

Tip of a finger

To spine of your notebook

I’d die for just one look

Promise I would never read

What if you caught me?

Wait - what if secretly

You had been hoping

Someone would open it?

Marvel to witness

Grace and acuteness

In notes you took everyday

Backlit, catching me reading you’d say:

“How do you like me now?

How do you like me now?”

“Went for a run

Didn’t see anyone

10th of December

I’m getting better

At being alone and at hearing the tone

Of exactly what it is I need

So how do you like me now?

That’s right!

I wrote it all out

It’s all there

The great inspirations

The nightmares

The good and the bad days

The clever, the bold observations

And one day, if anyone reads

They will fall in love

At last somebody

Who has really seen me”

Silver and Red

Towards the end of the day

It's impossible to situate

The sun in the sky

A source to the light

Looks like it's sliding

Out of the trees

And into the breeze

Cool and inviting

Claw-shaped leaves

Last to hold on

This far along in the year

The air, silver and clear

Bed of pine needles

You tread, my dear

Go to the lake

Still as a plate

Wait 'til others leave

To dunk your head in

Freezing water

Trickles down your cheeks

And into the collar

Of your apple-red coat

You walk ahead and I note

It is apple,

Apple-coloured red

And all the ways the light

Dances round your head

Bigger Pieces

Amazing how fast I stop caring

Good to know

Hideouts were built and left, it seems

See the one you built for me

In the name of all I’ll care for

I will leave

Won’t you hold back for me?

Hold back

Won’t you hold back for me?

Hold back

You say all that happens to me will be kept here jealously

I say how could you not tell me?

Then say all your shapes will reform if I wait here patiently

I need, I need bigger pieces

I have held back more than I can keep

Should I love them?

They are so beautiful

I love all of them

Makes me feel like quite a woman

Frightening how fast I stop caring

Won’t you hold back for me?

Hold back

Won’t you hold back for me?

Hold back

We went up the mountain

Last Friday night

All of the animals

Were out in plain sight

They didn’t bid us to follow them

They didn’t hiss us away

No, to us, my love

They had nothing to say

And while you saw the tremor

And you saw the wings

You saw the glistening white teeth

I was busy with things in my mind

Things that I tend to

As though to survive

I’m not proud I was asking you

Do you dim yourself down?

Do you say terrible things about me

When I’m not around?

You sweep a hand through the clearing

Say can’t you see?

There ain’t anything threatening you here

Least of all me

Put your life on the easel

There, right next to mine

We ain’t living like weasels

We don’t have the time, never will

All of the creatures made for the dark woods

Whooping, that’s what I heard

What if the easel fell over

And the paintings were burned to a crisp?

Nights like these I can’t quite tell

A fear from a wish
